APPLICABILITY OF LIN 2.0 PHYSICAL LAYER AND THE LIN 2.0 PHYSICAL LAYER CONFORMANCE TEST
On August 25, 2005 the LIN Steering Group decided that the LIN Physical Layer Specification 1.3 (and older) shall be regarded as obsolete. Starting from now on only LIN 2.0 Physical Layer Conformance Tests should be applied to any new devices supporting the LIN 2.0 Physical Layer Specification.
This means, a device with LIN 2.0 physical layer, which has been tested according to the LIN 2.0 Physical Layer Conformance Test, can be considered as compliant to all older LIN Physical Layer Specifications (e.g. LIN 1.3). For LIN devices, which support the LIN 1.3 Physical Layer Specification only, the LIN 1.3 Physical Layer Conformance Test still can be applied.

BACKGROUND
In the LIN 2.0 Physical Layer Specification the receiver specification has been left unchanged, but the LIN transmitter specification has been modified in order to provide higher transmission reliability compared to older LIN physical layer specification versions (e.g. LIN 1.3). Therefore, all nodes with LIN 2.0 physical layer can be mixed with older LIN physical layer nodes without any restrictions. A higher ratio of nodes using the LIN 2.0 Physical Layer Specification will even result in a higher transmission reliability.
Hence, the LIN 1.3 Physical Layer Conformance Test is regarded as obsolete and shall not be applied to devices conforming to the LIN 2.0.Physical Layer Specification.
